A few research basics

Demographics and other data are organized by topic on this site. We do our best to curate and target information to localities.

However, as you dig deeper or find new information sources, it’s good to know a few basics about Geneva:

• The town of Geneva is outside the city of the same name. They are different entities, treated separately by various information sources. City data, for example, is much more accessible and detailed than town data in Census Bureau research.
• Census tracts also vary by municipality. See the tract map at right.
• The Geneva School District, based in the city, includes the city and town, as well as portions of Phelps and Seneca in Ontario County; the town of Benton in Yates County; and the town of Waterloo in Seneca County.
• Both the town and city of Geneva are in Ontario County. Whenever possible, we provide data at the municipal level. When that isn’t available, we show Ontario County figures.
